Went for a run along the water this morning. Hurricane is coming right at us. Parts of my neighborhood are in the mandatory evacuation area.

My roomates all evacuated, but im sticking it out. The subways were turned off at noon today. Its a very eerie out there now… And everyone is stuck were they are.

Playing my new guitar.
I had originally sold my guitar to buy a Taylor. So now I finally bought the Taylor! I’m sooo thankful to everyone who helped Brandon and I win this trip to the Floriday Keys!!! It was perfect!

On the way down to the keys, we stopped off in South Beach and found that it was very crowded. Finding parking in South Beach is not an easy task. But while driving around, we got to see what the area was like. We finally ended up eating at News Cafe. Our waiter was great and had a lot of suggestions for us in the keys.

We stayed at Hawks Cay on Duck Key (or duckey, as I liked to call it). The resort was wonderful, and we highly recommend it. The food there and around the area was good and decently priced. We loved lying around the lagoon and in the adult pool. We did that a majority of our trip.

Our “big” excursion was snorkeling in Key Largo at John Pennekamp Coral Reef Park. I’m literally obsessed with under-water life. I’m too scared to go scuba diving, so I LOVE snorkeling. We took a snorkeling tour, and we were taken 10 miles out into the ocean and were dropped off at 3 different locations to look around at the reef. I bought an underwater digital camera over 2 years ago with intent to use it while snorkeling, and this is the first time I got to use it for that purpose! I was ecstatic.

Our last day, we went out to Bahia Honda State Park and did a little snorkeling at the beach. Sadly, I forgot my camera at the hotel that day; but we still had a great time exploring on our own.

It was a wonderful, relaxing vacation. It was short, but long enough to wind down. We’re hoping to go on a cruise back to the Caribbean in October, and I’m very much looking forward to more snorkeling!!

Recipe: Late-Summer Vegetable Soup

This week, I made this new recipe from my Martha Stewart app. It was yummy and fairly easy to make. I’d never made a soup with fresh, not canned veggies. I added some grilled chicken into the soup for protein. Also, as the picture implies with the ziplock bag, this is a great recipe to freeze for up to 3 months!

I’m a sucker for nature films, especially ones that show insane animals you never knew existed. This is why I LOVE watching nature films/shows about the ocean. There are so many things to discover down there. Oceans was amazing to see on the big screen. I was very entertained throughout. I highly suggest you see it on the big screen.

Also, I like the song on this preview. Wonderful by Gary Go.

My favorite was the blanket octopus. It looks like a silk scarf swimming through the water.

It was great! It wasn’t as thrilling as KOOZA, which I saw at Randall Island last year. But it was still great. I love Cirque Du Soleil. I LOVE all things Cirque Du Soleil. This was my 5th show, and I hope to see as many as I can.

So far, here’s my list:

Delirium

Saltimbanco

Wintuk

Kooza

You should try it out. It’s a pretty simple recipe.

Orecchiette with Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Rabe

EDIT:: I made this with shell pasta and broccoli instead of orecchiette and broccoli rabe. Easier to find ingredients, but still very good!

Journal Your Little Heart Out

Journal Your Little Heart Out:
I’ve always been a fan of journal-ing. It helps me feel calm and empties out my brain so I have more room to think and process life. I’m not always consistent with it; but when i am doing it, I can tell a big difference in my awareness and being in the moment.

So here’s an article about why everyone should journal. :)

Rockefeller Christmas Tree

We went and did the “touristy” Christmas thing- see the Rockefeller Christmas tree. On the way there, we had found that the decorators had left a big mess! Very large Christmas lights and ornaments on the side-streets.

When we got to the tree, I was a bit disappointed by the size of it… The lights and ornaments were so large.

I stayed here in NYC and intended to make it to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but had such an incredibly long week at work (because we moved the office the weekend before). So I did not make it to the parade, sadly. :( Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to go at somepoint, preferably with a good view from a building rather than on the street. :)

I also made my first Thanksgiving meal! While at the grocery store earlier in the week, a few non-marked chickens were placed right next to the turkeys. I was very close to bringing home a “Thanksgiving chicken”, but thankfully ended up with a turkey.

Everything I made I had never made before, so it made for a long day of cooking. It was well worth it! The only failure was the lemon sauce for the asparagus. It was faaar too sour, so I won’t be using that recipe again. I made a turkey rubbed with thyme and rosemary, gravy from scratch, candied yams, asparagus, and deep-friend corn fritters. I had bought homemade rolls and pumpkin pie from the farmers market, and those were also amazing. The meal was complete with some Pinot Grigio. :)

My first Thanksgiving meal was a complete success!!!! I was very nervous about it, but it was great. We ate our meal late and watched the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special.

I’m definitely looking foward to making future Thanksgiving meals, now that I know how to do it!

I know I haven’t posted in forever, but I have pretty good...

I know I haven’t posted in forever, but I have pretty good reason. :) I moved to Long Island City, which I loooove; and we moved our office.
