Recipe: Late-Summer Vegetable Soup

May
13

This week, I made this new recipe from my Martha Stewart app. It was yummy and fairly easy to make. I’d never made a soup with fresh, not canned veggies. I added some grilled chicken into the soup for protein. Also, as the picture implies with the ziplock bag, this is a great recipe to freeze for up to 3 months!

Disney’s Oceans- Amazing on the big screen!

I’m a sucker for nature films, especially ones that show insane animals you never knew existed. This is why I LOVE watching nature films/shows about the ocean. There are so many things to discover down there. Oceans was amazing to see on the big screen. I was very entertained throughout. I highly suggest you see it on the big screen.

Also, I like the song on this preview. Wonderful by Gary Go.

My favorite was the blanket octopus. It looks like a silk scarf swimming through the water.

OVO!!!! We went out to Randall Island in NYC to see Cirque Du Soleil:OVO!!

It was great! It wasn’t as thrilling as KOOZA, which I saw at Randall Island last year. But it was still great. I love Cirque Du Soleil. I LOVE all things Cirque Du Soleil. This was my 5th show, and I hope to see as many as I can.

So far, here’s my list:

Delirium

Saltimbanco

Wintuk

Kooza

I made this new recipe tonight from Martha Stewart’s iPod app. It was VERY good! You should try it out. It’s a pretty simple recipe.

Orecchiette with Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Rabe

EDIT:: I made this with shell pasta and broccoli instead of orecchiette and broccoli rabe. Easier to find ingredients, but still very good!

Rockefeller Christmas Tree

December
15

We wenPC090435t and did the “touristy” Christmas thing- see the Rockefeller Christmas tree. On the way there, we had found that the decorators had left a big mess! Very large Christmas lights and ornaments on the side-streets.

When we got to the tree, I was a bit disappointed by the size of it… The lights and ornaments were so large.

:) I hope you know that I’m joking….

Here is the South Street Seaport tree lighting. It’s a very cute area. If you haven’t been there, you need to explore it! It has obblestone streets, great restaurants, amazing views from the pier, a mall, and lost of shops.

This is the Big Apple Chorus’s rendition of “New York, New York”.

My First Thanksgiving Dinner

This year, I spent my first Thanksgiving apart from my family. I stayed here in NYC and intended to make it to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but had such an incredibly long week at work (because we moved the office the weekend before). So I did not make it to the parade, sadly. :( Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to go at somepoint, preferably with a good view from a building rather than on the street. :)

I also made my first Thanksgiving meal! While at the grocery store earlier in the week, a few non-marked chickens were placed right next to the turkeys. I was very close to bringing home a “Thanksgiving chicken”, but thankfully ended up with a turkey.

Everything I made I had never made before, so it made for a long day of cooking. It was well worth it! The only failure was the lemon sauce for the asparagus. It was faaar too sour, so I won’t be using that recipe again. I made a turkey rubbed with thyme and rosemary, gravy from scratch, candied yams, asparagus, and deep-friend corn fritters. I had bought homemade rolls and pumpkin pie from the farmers market, and those were also amazing.  The meal was complete with some Pinot Grigio. :)

My first Thanksgiving meal was a complete success!!!! I was very nervous about it, but it was great.  We ate our meal late and watched the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special.

I’m definitely looking foward to making future Thanksgiving meals, now that I know how to do it!

I know I haven’t posted in forever, but I have pretty good reason. :) I moved to Long Island City, which I loooove; and we moved our office. This is a pic from my neighborhood.
